What are the advantages of the driverless car market? Well, according to a press release issued by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles: "Self-driving cars have the potential to prevent some of the 33,000 deaths that occur each year on U.S. roads, 94 percent of which are caused by human error. This collaboration will help FCA and Google better understand what it will take to bring self-driving cars into the world."

Safety is just one of the many reasons why FCA and the Google Self-Driving Testing Project decided to launch a first-of-its-kind partnership. Last month, the two brands announced that they will integrate self-driving technology into about 100 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans to accelerate self-driving efforts and ultimately create a vehicle that will make roads safer and more accessible.

“Working with Google provides an opportunity for FCA to partner with one of the world’s leading technology companies to accelerate the pace of innovation in the automotive industry,” said Sergio Marchionne, Chief Executive Officer, FCA in a press release. “The experience both companies gain will be fundamental to delivering automotive technology solutions that ultimately have far-reaching consumer benefits.”

While it was unclear during the announcement if a self-driving Pacifica would go-to-market, we can confidently say no -- not anytime soon anyways. However, if you're interested in the sought-after 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, we have a number available at our showroom.
